Photoelectric Effect Flashcards
Photoelectric Effect
Light causes electrons to be ejected from a metal surface.
Threshold Frequency
Very bright light would not cause any electrons to be ejected if the frequency of the light was too low.
What can light do if certain energy/frequency requirements is met when projected to a metal surface?
It can eject on metal surfaces, which indicates that light can act like particles called PHOTONS. Not just waves.
Energy of photon depends on the frequency, what is the equation for energy of a photon?
E = hv
What is Planck’s constant (h)?
6.63 x 10^-34 J*s
What equation is created when [c = Λ * v] and [E = hv] is combined?
E = h * c / Λ
Line Spectra
When solids, liquids, or condensed gases are heated sufficiently, they radiate energy as light and have a range of energies.
