Q

Mechanical Waves Def?

A

Are waves that require a medium to travel through. They can travel very large distances, but the individual particles dont travel very far from their original position.

Q

Define Transverse Waves:

A

Is a type of mechanical wave in-which individual particles in the medium vibrate perpendicular to the direction of the movement of wave.

Q

Define Longitudinal Waves:

A

Is a type of mechanical wave in-which particles vibrate parallel to the direction of the wave movement. The transfer of energy in this wave creates areas of low pressure which is rarefaction, and areas of high pressure called compressions.
e.x. sound waves
