A
The paper is dry and the brush is loaded with lots of water and some pigment.

A
The paper is wet first and the brush is loaded with lots of water and some pigment.

Dry on dry
A
The paper is dry and the brush has more pigment than water.

Gradation
A
The paper is dry and the color gradually changes in value from darker to lighter by washing the brush out and adding water.

Layering
A
A lighter color is applied first to the paper then once it’s dry a darker color is applied in a smaller section over the top.

Block out
A
Using a masking media to keep areas of the painting white.

Removal
A
Taking watercolor off the paper by adding more water and blotting off the color with paper toweling.
