Why do we wedge clay?
Unifies moisture and gives it an even texture
What is clay made of?
Eroded particles of earth, consists of hydrated silicates of aluminum
Why might a piece of clay explode in the kiln?
It was not wedged or was not kneaded.

What is glaze?
A coating added to the clay to make it shiny or colorful after firing.

Drying for 24 hours and is like leather. Holds it’s shape better than workable
Bone dry
Completely dry and ready to be fired. Room temperature and very brittle.

Clay that has been fired once
Glaze ware
Clay that has been fired twice with a protective or decorative glass coating.
