Water & Waste Flashcards
What is the capacity of the potable water tanks?
The potable water tanks have a capacity of 350L.
What is the capacity of each waste tank?
Each waste tank can hold 350L.
How many potable water tanks are standard, and where are they installed?
There are 2 potable water tanks as standard, with an option for a 3rd. They are installed in the pressurized zone of the aircraft, with two located behind the aft cargo on the right-hand sidewall panels and the optional third tank in the bulk compartment.
What happens to the air compressor for water pressurization when APU bleed is available?
The air compressor for water pressurization is inhibited when APU bleed is available.
What is the function of the aft drain panel in the water system?
The aft drain panel allows manual filling of the water system.
Can the potable water system be serviced without electrical power?
Yes, the potable water system can be serviced with or without electrical power.
Where is the quantity transmitter for the potable water tank fitted?
Only the forward water tank is fitted with a quantity transmitter, this is because all the tanks are filled equally.
Where are the standard waste tanks located, and is there an option for more?
There are 2 waste tanks as standard, aft of the bulk cargo compartment, one on the left-hand side and one on the right-hand side of the aircraft. A 3rd waste tank can be installed as an option.
How is vacuum generated for the waste system at different altitudes?
The Vacuum Generator creates vacuum up to 16,000 ft, after which differential pressure takes over.
What unit controls the water and waste systems?
The water and waste systems are controlled by the Vacuum System Controller (VSC).
How is wastewater from the sinks disposed of?
Wastewater from all the sinks is ejected overboard via heated drain masts.
Where is the majority of water drained from, and is there an alternative drain location?
The majority of water is drained from the aft drain panel, but some can also be drained from the forward drain panel.
What happens to the toilet system when the waste panel is open?
The toilet system is inhibited when the waste panel is open.
What features do lavatories have for water heating and control?
Lavatories have a water heater with a red indicator light and a reset switch, as well as a manual shut-off valve. Galleys also have a shut-off valve.
What component controls the flush valve in each lavatory?
Each lavatory is fitted with a Flush Control Unit (FCU), which controls the flush valve.
What triggers the “WASTE TANK FULL” message on the FAP?
The high-level sensor in the waste tanks triggers the “WASTE TANK FULL” message on the FAP when necessary.
How does the Vacuum System Controller (VSC) receive waste quantity information?
The waste tanks are fitted with a waste level transmitter that provides waste quantity information to the VSC.
How does the Vacuum System Controller (VSC) respond to an overheat in the vacuum generator?
The VSC monitors a thermal switch on the vacuum generator, and if an overheat occurs, the thermal switch opens, causing the VSC to de-energize the vacuum generator.
Where does the Vacuum System Controller (VSC) send fault data?
The VSC provides fault data to the CMC.
