What is surface water?
Water that collects above ground in surface run-off, streams, rivers, creeks, lakes, ponds, marshes, swamps and oceans
What is groundwater?
Underground water seepage into a river, stream, creek or basin
What is a watershed?
An area that drains all precipitation received as a run-off or base flow into a particular river or set of rivers. The water flows from high elevation to low elevation into a large basin of water
What is a watershed divide?
A point of high elevation between two watersheds, which separates them
What is a tributary?
A smaller stream or river which flows into the main stem of the river
What floats and sinks in salt and freshwater?
Rubber: SW- Sink, FW- Sink
Die: SW- Float, FW- Sink
Counter: SW- Float, FW- Sink
Cube: SW- Float, FW- Float
Why does freshwater float on top of saltwater?
The saltwater is more dense than freshwater. The salt particles cause the water to be more dense
