water study Flashcards
What is l’eau douce?
clean/fresh water
What are the top three changes of water states?
evaporation, sublimation and condesation
what do you call it when gas freezes into ice?
deposition
What are the differences between climate and weather?
climate is annual, weather is daily
Name 5 different types of water.
dirty, salt, clean, drinkable and soft
What percentage of clean water is there on earth?
3%
How much clean water is available?
2.5%
Where can I find the most clean water?
glaciers and ice
What is the cryosphere?
frozen water on earths surface
What is the biosphere?
the regions of atmosphere, hydrosphere and surface occupied by living organisms.
What is hydrosphere? Examples?
all waters on earths surface
What are the 4 big water reservoirs?
Lakes, underground, rivers and glaciers
What is thermal energy?
the energy produced by a source thats responsible for its tempature
Give an example of thermal energy.
boiling water on a stove.
What is a cloud made of? its purpose?
water vapour, then condenses to form tiny water droplets. It’s purpose is rain.
Name two scientific letterings.
h2o and o8
What’s desaltment?
Removing salt from salt water.
What are two examples of desaltment?
Reverse osmosis and thermal energy
What are the four steps of treating water to make it clean?
treatment preliminaire, treatment primaire, treatment biological and treatment final.
whats treatment preliminaire
waste water passes through grates with grates in pipes to prevent objects like rocks, branches, waste entering.
whats treatment primaire
the water eventually passes through the pipes to arrive in a settling pond to rest until the solid particles decompose.
whats treatment biological
the water starts to move again through basins to eliminate bacterias and parasites.
whats treatment final
the water passes through a clean basin containing chlorine to remove the rest of the bacteria. the treated water then returns to the rivers to finally resume its normal cycle.
whats the first layer of atmosphere (T)
troposphere
second layer of atmosphere (S)
stratosphere
third layer of atmosphere (M)
mesosphere
fourth layer of atmosphere (TH)
thermosphere
fifth layer of atmosphere (I)
ionosphere
sixth (last) layer of atmosphere (E)
exosphere
