water stores Flashcards
Where is the annual total precipitation located worldwide?
Usually located around the equator due to high amounts of humidity. There are also a few strong areas up North around North America and Russia.
What is the global atmospheric?
It creates winds across the planets as air moves from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure. It also leads to areas of high rainfall, like the tropical rainforests, and areas of dry air, like deserts.
What is the cell closest to the equator?
The Hadley Cell
How does water move around the Hadley Cell?
-Solar radiation is intense over the Equator
- Evaporation takes place and water vapour rises creating an area of low pressure.
- As air rises it cools and at dew point condenses into cloud
- Once the raindrop reaches a certain size they fall, due to gravity, as precipitation.
- The cool air reaches the top of the Troposphere and moves North and South away from the Equator.
- As the air cools it becomes more dense and sinks over the tropics
- The air descends over the tropics and heats up creating area of high pressure.
- This dry air creates cloudless skies and no precipitation over the tropics.
- When the air reaches the surface it loves North, and South back towards the ITCZ.
This is known as the Hadley Cell.
What kind of pressure if found over the Equator?
Low Pressure
What is the difference between evaporation and condensation?
Evaporation is water turning into vapour due to heat, condensation is vapour turning into water due to cold temperatures.
What is the point where water vapour turns into water?
Dew point
What kind of pressure is found around the Equator?
Low pressure
