What are Level 1 water operations?
Operations where firefighters work within 3m of an unprotected waters edge, or enter still/slow moving water shallow enough not to go over the top of there fire boots.
What are level 2 water operations?
Operations where firefighters may have to comit to water to affect a rescue. This includes incidents involving people in the water.
What are level 3 water operations?
Operations that involve the deployment of flood response kits (FRK) where firefighters may be required near or in floodwater under the guidance of FRU SRT.
What does TAR stand for?
Tactical advisor rescue.
What does SRT stand for?
Swiftwater rescue technician.
How far should the restricted zone be from the waters edge?
3 metres
What hierachy applies to a rescue under level 1 conditions?
TALK
REACH
THROW
When working near moving water the IC should nominate and position what?
Spotters upstream and downstream.
(Downstream spotters should be equipped with throw lines).
Can Firefighters not trained in swiftwater rescue be committed to water to carry out a rescue?
Only as a very last resort, if there is life risk.
What does PFD stand for?
Personal flotation device.
What does TRA stand for?
Tactical rescue advisor
If an ice rescue is required but not mentioned on the initial call what must the IC send as a priority?
“Implement water operations procedure level 2, rescue path required”
What does FRK stand for?
Flood response kit
