How many levels of water response are there?
Three
What are Level 1 water operations?
Firefighters working within 3 metres of an unprotected waters edges, or enter water that is both shallow enough to not compromise their PPE and is slow moving enough that there is no foreseeable risk that they will be swept away.
What are Level 2 water operations?
Firefighters may have to commit to water to affect a rescue. This includes all incidents involving people in water and any other incidents beyond the limitations of Level 1.
What are Level 3 water operations?
Operations which involved the deployment of Flood Response Kits. Firefighters may be required to work under guidance of the FRU SRT near, on or in flood water.
Define still water?
A body of water that is usually contained and has no visible movement.
Define moving water?
A body of water which has noticeable surface movement.
What other operations are covered in the same context as water?
Mud, ice, partially frozen water or any surface which requires needs the same specialist equipment or training.
What are the hazards associated with water?

What on arrival information should be gained from witnesses?
Number of people involved
Where the casualty was last seen
Whether the casualty was wearing a life jacket
What clothing the casualty was dressed in

What is the minimum PPE for a firefighter entering water to affect as rescue?
Full firefighting kit
Personal Floatation Device (PFD)
Fire helmets, as needed, straps undone
