Water On Earth Flashcards
Water cycle
The repeated movement of water in the ecosystem
Evaporation
When water changes form a liquid to gas.
Condensation
What water vapor turns into water.
Precipitation
When water falls from a cloud as rain, snow, sleet, or hail
Runoff
Water that is moving down hill
Accumulation
Water collecting at the lowest point
Sublimation
Ice turning into water vapor before it touches the ground
Frost
Water vapor that freezes without becoming a gas
Transpiration
When water from plant leaves evaporates
Stratus clouds
Layered clouds that cover the sky. They look dark
Fog
Stratus clouds at ground level
(Alto) cumulus
Bottoms look dark because little sunlight gets through. Puffy, cotton, balls. Small

When ice crystals fall and melt through warm air.
Snow
When ice crystals fall through air that is at freezing point
Sleet
When ice crystals melt then freeze again in the air
Hail
When ice crystals join together and wind pushes them up to the top of the cloud
Freezing rain
When ice crystals melt and freeze when they hit and object at freezing point.
