Water in the World Flashcards
natural resources of water
A material or substance that occurs natural in nature and are essential to human life
Renewable resources
renewable resource is a source from the earth that can be replaced naturally and used multiple times. - solar energy, wind energy, waves
Non renewable resources
a non-renewable resource is source a natural source that lives in limited supply and can not be replaced or restored if used i=up in entirety and exploited - oil, natural gas, coal, nuclear energy
Continuous resource
a resource that will virtually always exist - similar to a renewable resource
precipiation:
Rain, hail, snow, dew
Frontal rainfall
when warm airmass and cold airmass meet on a front
cold frontal rainfall
when the cold airmass if BIGGER than the warm airmass so pushes it upward causing heavier rainfall in a certain area - less clouds
warm frontal rainfall
when the cold air mass is SMALLER than the warm air mass so the warm area rises on a slant and causes more clouds - the air is
convectional rainfall
when water evaporate from dew or from earths surface, condenses, form clouds then precipitate
orographic rainfall
when warm air rises over a mountain range, condenses then rains over a mountain range area
Catchments
a catchment is when it precipitates and mountain ranges natural flow and store water as it runs down and inbetweener the hills
dam
where we store clean water to use - often built near catchments as they are a source of flowing clean drinking water
