Water- grade 4 Flashcards
What is energy?
The power that makes things work
How does people use water to get food?
We need water to help plants, fruit and vegetables to grow. The animals also need water to drink, and for the plants that they eat to grow.
How do mines and factories use water?
Mines use the water to make energy such as electricity. Factories use water for cleaning and cooling down their machines. Water is also part of many factories processes.
Fresh water
Water that people an animals can drink.
Salt water
Water that contains salts which are not good for most plants and animals.
Evaporation
When heating changes a gas into liquid called vapor
Resources
Useful things that people use and need in their lives.
What type of water is mostly in this world?
Salt water from the oceans.
What process occurs to get fresh water?
The process of evaporation changes salt water into fresh water.
Where do we find fresh water naturally?
In lakes, rivers, wetlands, streams and also underground.
Explain what evaporation is.
The sun heats the sea water and turns it into a gas called vapor. Water vapor rises, the salt stays behind.when the air cools, water vapor turns to water again and fall to the ground as rain.
A stream.
A stream is rain water that collects in small channels to make streams.streams join together to make rivers.
A lake.
A lake is a large area of fresh water.
A wetland .
Places next to rivers and lakes that is always wet.
Explain the different stages of the water cycle.
- Evaporation
- Presipatation
- Condensation
- Streams flow into rivers
- Rivers flow downhill into sea or forms a lake.
- Rivers return water from the land back into the sea.
Why do people store water?
So they can use it later.
How do farmers store water?
Farmers store their water in dams to make sure there is always water for their animals and crops.
