Water cycle processes Flashcards
What is the process evaporation
The process of liquid water changing into gaseous water (water vapour)
What is the process of precipitation
Precipitation forms in the clouds when water vapour condenses into droplets of water
What is the process of transpiration
Plants absorb liquid water from the soil and release water vapour into the air from the leaves
What is the process of run off
Water run off occurs when there is more water than land can absorb
What is the process of interception
(example)
Interrupting the movement of water
E.g - trees intercepting precipitation
What is the process of infiltration
Occurs when water moves into the ground from the surface and soaks into the soil and rock layers
What is the process of percolation
Movement of water through the soil itself
What is the process of ground water flow
Part of a streams flow that infiltrates into the ground moving sideways sometimes downwards
What is the process of transport by wind
Strong winds move clouds location often from oversea over to land
What is the process of surface flow
Continuous movement off water in run off or open channels
