Increase in population = increase in demand
Decrease in population = decrease in demand

Increase in affluence = more appliances being used = activities that use water

Some industries are far more water intense
E.g - heavy industries such as the steel industry

Intensive agriculture requires large amounts of water

Energy used as cooling water in nuclear and fossil fuel power stations
