WHAT IS WATER-BORNE DISEASE?
caused by a variety of microorganisms, biotoxins, and toxic contaminants; and spread via contaminated water
mainly affects children below five years of age;
usually lasts for a couple of weeks and can turn
out to be fatal if it goes untreated

LGU’s ROLE IN WATER-BORNE DISEASE
PREVENTION W/N THE COMMUNITY
The LGUs are primarily responsible in the delivery of
quality water-borne disease diagnosis, management and treatment
- (i) sanitation particularly in public markets,
slaughterhouses, micro and small food processing
establishments and public eating places, - (ii) codes of practice for production, post-harvest
handling, processing and hygiene, - (iii) safe use of food additives, processing aids and
sanitation chemicals and - (iv) proper labeling of prepackaged foods
