Water balance Flashcards
What percentage of water enters the Collecting duct?
15% around 100mosm
What 2 types of cell is present?
Principle and Intercalated cells
What are Priniciple cells involved with?
Water and salt regulation
What are Intercalated cells involved with?
Acid-base balance.
ADH has what effect?
Cause a 50 fold increase in water permeability.
What happens when ADH binds to V2R on basolateral surface?
Signal via cAMP to phosphorylate AQP2 which is exocytosed to surface.
What are some modulators of ADH?
Receptors downregulation by internalisation, modulating adenylate cyclas (prostaglandins, a2 adrenergic), Cytosoloic Ca, Altered presence of AQP2
What causes secretion of Vasopressin?
Osmolarity
What factors increase secretion of vasopressin?
Nausea, Hypoglycaemia, Hypoxia, Hypercapia, Angiotenisin, Stress
