Water and Carbon cycle Flashcards
Oceanic waters
Water contained in the oceans and seas, but not inland seas
Crysopheric waters
Water locked up in the earths Ice. Antarctic and greenland = 99% of earths fresh water
Terrestrial water
Rivers, Lakes, Groundwater and atmosphere
Soil water budget
deficit of water, plants adapt or die
Field capacity
Amount of soil moisture held after excess has drained away
Run off variation with geological features
permeability increase, less run off and vice versa
Physical factors effecting a hydrograph
- Drainage basin, more circular = flashy
- Drainage density, Steep sides = flashy
Tiles
perforated tubes installed 1m below the surface to control and increase drainage
Saline intrusion
Pumps close to the coast may find salt water intruding through more permeable rocks creating brackish water and rendering it useless for drinking
