Domestic Purpose meaning
s2 of Water Act - includes household purposes for one or more private dwellings other than multiple family apartments/hotels.
Includes drinking, food prep, sanitation, fire prevention, providing water to animals kept for household use or as pets, and irrigation of gardens not exceeding 1000m2 that is adjoining and occupied with a dwelling
s5 of Water Act
right to use and flow of streams and groundwater in BC is vested in government
s6(1) of Water Act
6(1) cant divert from a stream or aquifer or use from stream or aquifer unless authorized.
Under s6(2) a person is not prohibited from…
diverting or storing water from a stream or aquifer for extinguishing a fire but if flow is diverted from stream or channel for that use it must be promptly restored once the fire is out.
Also not prohibited from diverting for purpose of testing quality or quantity of water or conducting a flow test.
6(3) of water act
Not prohibited from diverting unrecorded water FROM STREAM for domestic purpose or prospecting a mineral.
* note ok from groundwater too as long as obeys regulations
Not prohibited from taking from an aquifer for the purpose of prospecting for a mineral.
6(4) of Water Act
May divert or beneficially use / store groundwater from an aquifer for domestic purposes unless goes against regulations
