Water Flashcards
What would happen to Earth if ice didn’t float? List 3 things that could change.
- oceans would freeze and cause a chain reaction and would kill all marine animals, then there wouldn’t be any food to survive
- the climate would be warmer bc the sun would reflect off the ice
- sea levels would become higher
List 3 reasons animals need water to survive
Need to drink = die of thirst
Grow food = eat to survive
Transportation =nutrients
List one reason plants need water to survive
Need water to grow
No water = no formula for photosynthesis
Explain how the action in the center of a star is relevant to life occurring
When it gets so big and bursts, it creates elements from it
What’s the difference between science conducted in the times or Aristosle and Pluto, and science conducted in today’s world?
They tried to make nature match logic, while we try to make our logic match nature
What is specific heat? Describe waters specific heat and tell what about the water molecule makes it this way
- the amount of energy needed to increase the temperature of a substance
- body–controls your temperature and how much energy you use
What does specific heat affect on a large scale (climate, planet or beyond) and on a small scare (person, animal or plant)?
Large: affects climate; agriculture
Small: air conditioning, sweating
How does soap work? What is a micelles?
-the polar side is attracted to the water, while the non polar side is hydrophobic so while its attaching to the gunk on your hands it’s takin it off also
Why does ice float?
Ice floats because ice has a lower density than water
