Water Flashcards
Renewable resources
replenished faster than consumed
Perpetual resources
Do not run out and are infinite. eg solar, wind waves.
Non renewable
not replenished faster than consumed
Infilteration
Water soaked into ground. Water that filters beneath the surface of the earth is called groundwater.
Frontal rainfall
A warm air mass meets a cold air mass and warm air goes over cold air as it is less dense. The warm air cools then precipitates.
orographic rainfall
When moist air meets high land and is forced to rise. The air rains onto windward side. The air descends on goes to the leeward side, it warms and creates dry regions.
convectional rainfall
occurs when the heated air from the earth’s surface rises upwards along with the water vapour and gets condensed when it reaches a higher altitude. can occur cumulonimbus clouds, heavy rainfall.
ground water
ground water fills spaces between grains of soil. In an areav below the soil, is called the saturated zone. All paces betwwenn soil are filled. top of zone is called water table.
waterfalls
plunge pools are the pool under the waterfall. Hard rock will crack into pool. A new fall forms upstream. this forms a gorge
