Space:
It refers to the way that we use, change, and distribute things on earths surface.
SPICESS - P
Place -
Allows humans to identify the location of something within a space.
SPICESS - I
Interconnection -
The idea of two things that are interacted in some way. For example without water tees would not survive.
SPICESS - C
Change -
How a place is altered due to shifts in the environment or to meet the needs of humans.
SPICESS - E
Environment -
defined by its geographical characteristics. Can be natural (forests) or unnatural (cities). Within an environment we can observe interconnections and change.
SPICESS - 1st S
Scale -
Usually refers to size of something. Can be on a map (how big something is) or region (local, national, regional, or global).
SPICESS - 2nd S
Sustainability -
Maintaining resources and environment for future generations. (renewable energy)
Choropleth Maps
Uses dark and light shades to represent data.
Climate Map
Represents climate.
Political Maps
Show the boundaries of different countries.
Topographic Maps
Show how mountainous a region is.
Tourist Maps
Shows landmarks
Weather map
Shows air pressure and movement. Swirly lines across the map.
Cadastral Map
Used to show blocks of land and sizes
Thematic map
This term can be used to describe almost any map. Uses colors to represent data. Most commonly climate, food and population.
