War of Austrian Succession
(1740-1748) sparked in Europe by French support of Prussia’s aggression against Austria. (Austria=traditional enemy of France). Britain wanted Netherlands to be under Austrian control, not French. Britain and France had war. France decided to support Spain in war against Britain. Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle ended war.
Seven Years’ War
(1756-1763) larger war between France and Britain. Treaties of Hubertusburg and Paris ended the war in 1763.
French and Indian War
(1754-1763) Started when George Washington opened fire on French forces in Ohio Valley. War in Europe caused by Prussia’s invasion of Saxony (another German state Prussia’s Frederick II distrusted). led to Austria, France, Sweden, Russia, and other German states joining Saxony in war against Prussia. Prussian Tsar Peter III replaced Russia’s empress in 1762. Frederick II prevailed in Europe.
Treaty of Paris
(1763) gave Canada, Ohio River Valley, and territory east of Mississippi to Britain.
