Look up—look down
Look where your placing feet and hands. Start over if you mess up.
Baby Steps
Make three foot movements for every hand movement. Use other problems if you have to.
High steps
Choose a route you can do easily. Place your feet as high as possible with each step.
Downclimbing
Down climb after climbing a route
Ninja feet / quiet feet
Place feet without noise
Sticky feet
Don’t move or twist your feet once placed
Chips only
Climb with only chips for feet
Intermediate steps
Smear one foot on the wall before placing the other on a foothold
Matching feet
Traverse the wall and match feet while moving
Strong feet
Climb step wall while keeping feet on the wall. Don’t use heel or toe hooks
Trickster
Add on from strong feet. Don’t cut feet, but use all feet tricks on 40 degrees or more
Let the hold decide
Climb route as intended. Openhanded grip on all pockets and good holds, half crimp on all edges, and punch every pinchable hold
Traversing
Traverse
Locking off
Lock off one to three seconds before grabbing the next hold
Matching
Match all hand holds
Find the rest
Find five rests where you can hang 20 to 30 seconds
Climbing without pinching
Find a problem with pinches, but don’t pinch
Climbing with fewer fingers
Climb with two or three fingers. Practice on slab or vertical walls.
One hand only
Climb a few boulders with one hand
No hands
Traverse if needed, but try to find a couple problems to complete without hands
Finding the position
Static climbs
Sidepulls only
Find a problem or wall that you can climb with only or mostly sidepulls
Crossing the line
Cross left hand past your center line. Grab a hold a little to the right with your left hand. Practice going farther hold with your right after cross. Repeat with other side
Compression
Compress in different distances. Keep left and right hand as symmetrical as possible
