Warden Questioning Flashcards
We’re not sure who the letter refers to, however. Maybe you can find out.
Before we begin the questioning, we’re going to allow you to search the prisoner’s cell and the murder area. Please remember to leave any evidence you find in place though.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is now time for…
questioning! You are now free to question all of us and attempt to decide who committed this foul crime. You can also look over the evidence assembled there. You have (x number) of minutes. Let us begin!
Ladies and gentleman, the time has now come upon us for you…
to decide in your groups who you think our murderer is! You will have five minutes for discussion and we would like a murderer and a motive from each group of you!
Wonderful! Now, I have also been paying close attention to…
this case and I think I have just about worked out who the murderer is…. And I’ll begin with myself, ladies and gentlemen. I must confess, I have heard many of you look upon me with suspicion. And you would be right to do so. I admit it: I did not like (Prisoner A). More than that, I hated (Prisoner A), not just because he was putting my job into danger with his plans and schemes but because of the rumours I heard about him and my darling wife of ten happy years.
I admit that I sent one of the…
threatening notes found. I don’t know where the others came from though. When I heard he was planning to escape yet again, I purchased this poison that you found in my pocket with the intent of slipping it to him. And I would have done, ladies and gentleman, I would have happily done so. Except before I had the chance, he ended up dead and I was spared from being made a murderer
But in the end, I decided against it! I did send him one of the threatening notes but I only wanted to scare him. I wasn’t actually going to kill him!
What? YOU were a criminal, a highway robber? How can I ever trust you again?
Well….. you were prepared to kill a man in your care, whose safety you were duty bound to defend! How can I ever trust YOU again?
Call it even?
Well obviously it was me! I can’t believe it’s a surprise to you!
You mean, you deliberately killed him?
I MUST have made a mistake and accidently given him something toxic by mistake. I’m really terribly sorry.
That’s very admirable, Nurse. Just…. A few things, if I may clarify.
Of course
You’ve worked here two years, is that correct? And it hasn’t been an easy time, has it?
Not at all. I still feel so awful- I’ve caused so much trouble!
It’s funny though because things haven’t always been like this, have they? Why, in this reference letter I received for you from your old employer, they describe you as being the very epitome of an excellent nurse.
It’s true…. I have no idea why I’ve suddenly changed like this. It worries me all the time- If I didn’t have dear prisoner C with me, I’d be quite lost.
Of course. And you’ve been together how long? A year? The same year you began making so very many mistakes? The same year that Prisoner A arrived at the prison?
What are you implying? Why would I have anything to do with this?
Revenge, perhaps? Revenge against the friend you knew from childhood who so cruelly betrayed you and sent you here to rot? I suggest that when Prisoner A arrived at the jail, you saw your chance for revenge.
You deliberately…
sort out to grow close to Nurse Ely so that you would be able to frame her as murderess when your plan eventually came to fruition, and you spent a year making her appear foolish and careless so that she would be suspected
And all those hours…
spent in her office together gave you easy access to her medicine cabinet, didn’t it? Very easy for you to borrow whatever might be needed to bring Prisoner A’s life to an end!
