War Weapons Flashcards
Tanks
The first tank was used by the British during World War I As a way of attacking enemy trenches. They were called tanks to trick the Germans into thinking they were water carriers for areas where water was hard to move or find in large amounts
Gas
Soldiers used mustard, chlorine, bromine and fosgene gas. Mustard and chlorine gas could kill by blistering the lungs and throat if inhaled in large amounts. Soldiers protected their mouths by holding a urine soaked cloth over their mouths. In 1918 soldiers had more adequate protection, filtering respirator or primitive gas masks
Planes
The Royal flying corpse was created in May 1912. During World War I the RFC became the eyes of the British Army directing artillery gunfire, taking photos for intelligence analysis and taking part in dogfights with the German air force
