Safe place that he finds a place of longing, dark similar to the dark things he has seen, finally suggests he is tired and traumatised

Religious imagery, like a priest who deals with others suffering

Just like the sanctuary of the church the red light means Jesus’s is present
“He has a job to do”
Has to focus on his job over his feelings, professional and cold, shirt sentence highlights the reality of the situation
“Feilds which don’t explode beneath the feet of running children in nightmare heat”
Land mines shouldn’t be present however, children are not worried/ do not have to worry about landmines but children of war assume there is
“Something is happening”
Onimus, turn in the story, he is triggered, a confession and a memory
“Faintly start to twist before his eyes, a half formed ghost”
Pain, anguish and horror, like a ghost means the man is dead, he is seeing the pain again
“Without words to do what somone must”
Moral conflict, emotional turmoil shown through enjanbomt
“A hundred agonies in black and white”
No mistaking the suffering, very clear to see, vast amount of pain
“From which his editor will pick out five or six”
Vague and is not serious, ideal, doesn’t care for all of the suffering only parts that will make him money, not all suffering will be understood or seen by the media
“Prick with tears”
Public have a limited emotional response but still do not do anything to help
“He earns his living and they do not care”
Is it just his job? Should he also not care? Critical of the public, questioning the point of his morality if they show no emotion
“Ordinary pain”
Public doesn’t feel the pain of war
“Simple weather”
Mundane and can be easily fixed
