“Own Country”
Sense of belonging/ ownership/ childish
“Red room”
Train carriage is associated with anger and passion as it is red or high emotions
“The miles rushed back to the city”
Inconsolable as they have broken hearts, the sound of the train is loud and will not stop to say goodbye
“I stared at the eyes of a blind toy holding its paw”
Silence In contrast to brothers crying, seeking her own comfort, the toy is blind just as she is to the unknown
“All childhood is an emigration”
Always change, bittersweet
“You’re accent wrong”
Difficult to connect, sticks out, sounds different to everyone else
“Big boys, eating worms”
Behaviour and language that is unknown to her
“My parents anxiety stirred like a loose tooth”
Anxiety is constantly present and persistent like a tooth it is stuck to her, she has took in her parents worry
“But then you forget”
Change of direction and thought
“Shedding it’s skin like a snake”
Accent is changing as she is also changing
“Do I only think”
Challenging her self identity “I” represents the separation from others as she questions herself
“I hesitate”
Still uncertain about her identity, still has to clarify to herself, conflicted on true origins despite her age
“Seeing your brother swallow a slug”
Time has now passed and he has assimilated to his new home environment, he has changed and now fits in with other people
