Q
“The reader’s eyeballs prick with tears between the bath and pre-lunch beers”
A
- ‘Eyeballs’ suggests that the reader ‘crying’ is a mechanical reflex, as they don’t have a genuine or emotional response, it also reflects the ugliness of the readers disingenuous reponse
- ‘Prick’ conveys lack of tears
- Creates an impression such that the reader is forcing themselves to forget about the war by cleansing themselves through the bath then showing disheartened carelessness by getting drunk to avoid their consciousness
