Tissue analysis Flashcards
1
Q
“Maps too. The sunlight shines through their borderlines”
A
- shows man’s attempts in trying to control nature and physical landscape is overshadowed by daylight, highlights that man-made attempts to control nature is futile
- Light imagery: emphasises the power of nature, even over something important as a map as it is still thin and fragile, which is ultimately a result from human desire for authority and denomination
2
Q
“Pages smoothed and stroked turned transparent with attention”
A
- Syndetic listing creates an endless sense such that humans are too obsessed with their systematic information and systems, when it is futile
- Gentle verbs and tactile imagery reflect how we deem our systematic society as essential and how we try hard to maintain it, as the paper turns ‘transparent’ over time
- Enjambment slows down the pace and generates a sense such that Dhaker is criticising us for our unnatural obsession with the uses of paper, and how we let it dominate our lives
3
Q
“What was paid by credit card fly our lives like paper kites”
A
- Simile highlights our reliance on money and wealth, however it is insignificant and fragile as it only has value because we give it value
- By comparing humans to paper kites, it suggests that we are being anchored down by our own debts
- The noun ‘kites’ has connotations of childhood innocence, suggesting that as we get older, we gain an obsession with money and allow it to govern our lives
