What happened before the War?
- Japan supported the allies during WW1
- japan was permitted to keep the Chinese Territory its had seized from Germany during the war
- japan was still wanted more and was disappointed with the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, and therefore left
- Japan’s influence years after the war was very limited due to the western powers such as the USA
- Great Depression affected the nation; mass unemployment and major social problems which lead military takeover on the government

What happened during the War …how did the Japanese Enter?
- Japanese were underestimated, they took some parts of China at the beginning
- the event which symbolises the Japanese entry to the war is the bombings of pearl harbour
What happened during the attack of pearl harbour?
- first everyone ( the countries ) did not give much attention to the Japanese and did not see them as a threat. But when they bombed PH everyone was alerted
- pearl harbour was bombed on the 7th December 1941 to destroy the America’s pacific fleet to prevent them from intervening in the pacific
- at first the damage inflicted was thought to be successful but they underestimated the how much resources and military American had
How did America come to War?
Pearl Harbour Attack caused the USA, Australia and the Netherlands to declare war on Japan
Germany ( an ally of Japan) declared war on the USA
Thus USA was brought in the European war
How did the Japanese do in the War
They were every successful during the first 2 years and conquered many nations
They did the impossible and took over Singapore which was thought to be impossible to invade due to the strong British presence- Australia felt protected
But when they fell many nations panicked especially Australia
Explain what at the Kokoda track
- Japanese forces during the 1942 based in New Guinea with the objective to capture Port Moresby so they can launch regular bombings against northern australia and get supplies from the sea
- they had to pass through the Kokoda track jungle to get to Port Moresby due to the American naval presence in the seas
- Australian military units were sent to New Guinea to stop Japanese advancement on the track
- the battle of coral sea was won by USA
- at first the japs advanced and damaged untrained Australian men but when the American airforce bombed the Japanese home islands and thief base (nov 1942), Australia was able to advance and win the Kokoda track.
