Q

Wall-E

timbre

A

• Other timbre choices feel important. The emphasis on the implementation of a harp adds to the romantic nature of the cue. They almost represent the audience’s heart strings the two characters are pulling on during this scene.
Sci-Fi electronic sounds add to the sci-fi themes present within the movie, and of course the fact that the story is about robots.
• Use of a constant, simple bassline makes the timbre feel rich, along with the short interjections of thick string sections. Rich timbre gives a sense of comfort to the listener and makes the experience feel grounded.

Q

Wall-E

harmony

A

• At the end, the cue gracefully comes to a stop, like the end of a waltz. Newman achieves this effect through the removal of the fifth from the C sharp major triads, making warm sounding C major thirds.

Q

Wall-E

time signature

A

• The ¾ key signature creates connotations of a waltz like dance, reflecting the romantic nature of the scene. It also gives the impression of a dance between Wall-E and EVE in Space.
