Ringelmann effect?

A

Explains the tendency for individual effort to decrease as the size of the group working on a task increases. The perceived level of social loading (less motivated to contribute since their efforts would not make a noticeable impact) increases.
Bigger groups increase complexity, makes it harder to coordinate and can lead to confusion and inefficiency.

A

It is related with team performance.
Too many talented individuals in a team can negatively impact team performance (Paris st Germain).
It ia important to have a balanced team with a range of abilities that can complement one another.

A

Conscientiousness, agreeableness, collectivism (cultural orientation that emphasize on group goals and values rather than personal), and preference for teamwork (value it and are motivated).

These improve social dynamics, increased motivation and effort, better cooperation and coordination.

A
  1. Relationship conflict: decreased trust, reduced communication and decreased team morale
  2. Process conflict: decreased efficiency, trust and morale
  3. Task conflict: increased creativity and better decision making (as long as there is psychological safety, openness to change or low emotional reactions). Also could decrease cohesion and increase tensions

What are the different conflict management styles? (5) When is it good to use them?

  1. Competing: not care about the other, try to win. Use of power to control the outcome. EMERGENCIES
  2. Accommodating: letting others win the argument. When issues at stake are minor
  3. Avoiding: avoiding conflict. To preserve relationships but can lead to unattended problems
  4. Collaborating: actively working with others to find a mutually beneficial solution. Resolve complex issues.
  5. Compromising: finding a middle ground and making concessions. Quickly resolve but may not be the best solution for everyone
