W5 Independent & Paired Samples T-tests Flashcards

1
Q

What are the two types of Samples T-tests?

A
  1. Independent Samples T-test
    - Data from two different groups of people
  2. Paired Samples T-test
    - One group, each person provides two bits of data
Tip: Pair of shoes = two shoes belonging to one person

Q

Give 3 assumptions of a Paired Samples T-test

A
  • Data is continuous/scale (ratio or interval)
  • ‘Differences’ are normally distributed
  • No significant outliers in the ‘differences’

Q

Give 3 assumptions of an Independent Samples T-test

A
  • Data is continuous (ratio e.g. height or interval e.g. temperature)
  • Both groups are a random sample of a population
  • Homogeneity of variance (both groups have equal-ash variances)
