W1) 2) Critical differences between Psychology and Psychiatry Flashcards
What is Psychology?
A paradigm is a way of seeing the world based on different features of the person.
8-9 yr old would have an IQ of about 70 - struggles to take care of themselves. How much information can you process in one time frame and memory system.
Behaviour = only observable.
What are the sub-disciplines of Psychology?
What is psychiatry?
What are the sub-disciplines of psychiatry?
Addiction = treatment of behaviours of addiction.
Biological = what brain regions do what functions. How would you biologically intervene? Eg. theories to do with depression - serotonin, SSRIs.
What are all the models of psychiatry?
What is the medical model?
All disease is caused by a biological problem. Can’t explain why we get rapid increases in the incidence of certain diseases in certain populations in the absence of many medical conditions…
Eg. Mental health in under 21 went from 20% to 50%.
Young people are not biologically different to the people of the past.
