- Cooperative VTS
established between US and CA serves the area on the chartlet. Operated by USCG and CACG. CVTS serves Haro and Boundary, USCG serves area S and E from Patos.
TSS on the chartlet
is recommended and voluntary.
Victoria Traffic on VHF 11 check in points;
6 Gowland Pt for south bound, #7 East Pt in Boundary Pass for either direction, #8 NE of Patos for either direction.
Call Seattle VTS
VHF 05a in; areas of US control, at Patos either direction to/from Victoria VTS, Hein Bank to/from Victoria VTS.
VMRS Users Full Participation (report, monitor, respond)
Power driven, 40m or more, navigating.
- Commercial towing vessels 8m or more, navigating.
- Vessels certified to carry 50 or more passengers while engaged in trade.
VTS Users Passive Participation (monitor, respond)
- Power driven 20m or more, navigating.
- Vessels 100GT carrying 1 or more passenger for hire, navigating.
- Dredge or floating plant near channel or fairway conducting ops likely to affect navigation of others.
Reports Include
- Initial (check in, at least 15’ prior but not more than 45’ before entering VTS)
- Position report
- Sailing plan, deviations, and eta changes by 30’
- Final report (check out)
Turn Pt Special Operating Area
- From Gowland Pt, around Turn Pt, to .3nm S of Tom Is.
- Applies to vessels 100m+ S/B from Boundary, and N/B from Haro.
- While towing astern shall do so on as short a hawser as safe with good seamanship.
- Participants 100m + will make best effort not to enter when another 100m participant is in the SOA.
- follow astern minimum .5nm
- overtake in SOA with .5nm CPA, no opposing, and permission with VTS
- if inbound from Haro and meeting another vessel in SOA, don’t enter until outbound has crossed line between Turn and Arachne Rf, .5nm CPA.
