Coop VTS system
A cooperative VTS system has been establish between US and Canada and serves the area on this chartlet. It’s operated by the USCG and Canadian CG. Haro strait and boundary pass are operated by CVTS and from patos Is. South and east by USCG

The TSS on this chartlet is a recommend route and voluntary
Victoria traffic check points
On VHF ch 11- #6 1nm south of
Gowland pt for south or west bound traffic #7 1.1 nm east of east point in boundary pass for traffic in both directions. #8 2.3nm NE patos Is. For vessels in both directions.
Seattle traffic
Call Seattle traffic in VHF ch 5a when in all areas of US control. Patos Is when transiting in both directions to/from Victoria VTS and Hein bank when transiting in both directions to/from Victoria VTS
TSS on north part of chart
Has 1mil wide lanes with 1mile separation zone
TSS SW of Alden bank
Continues toward precautionary area marked by buoy “CA” then south to buoy “c”. Lanes are 1000 yds wide and precautionary area is 500 yds wide
VMRS user full participation

- power driven vessel 40m(131ft) or more while navigating
-commercial towing Vsl 8m(26ft) or more while navigating
-Vsl certified to carry 50 or more passengers or more when engaged in trade
VTS user passive participation
(Monitor and respond )
- power driven Vsl 20m(66ft) or more while
Navigating
-Vsl of 100gt or more carrying 1 or more passengers for hire while navigating
-dredge or floating plant near channel or fairway conducting operations likely to restrict or affect navigation of other vsls
VTS reports include
-initial report
-position report as directed by VTS
- sailing plan deviation if route or eta changes by more than 30min
-final report(check out)
- make initial report at least 15min before but no more than 45min prior to entering the VTS area
Turn pt special operating area
1- waters from Gowland pt around turn pt to .3nm south of Tom is.
2- regulations apply to all VTS participants 100m or great
3- will apply to Vsl southbound from boundary pass, northbound from Haro strait for boundary pass and Swanson channel
Turn pt SOA towing Vsl
VTS participant while towing astern shall do so with as short of hawser as safely and good seamanship permits
Turn pt. SOA rules
1- a VTS participant of 100m or more in length will make best effort not to enter when another VTS participant 100m or greater is already in the SOA unless:
- when following astern maintain a minimum separation of .5nm for the Vsl ahead
- overtaking In SOA can have no opposing traffic and concurrence of Victoria traffic and must maintain a .5nm cpa
-if outbound from boundary pass and meeting an inbound Vsl already in the SOA, enter only after inbound Vsl vector is past the outbound Vsl and .5nm cpa
- if inbound from Haro strait and meeting a Vsl already in SOA must wait to enter until outbound Vsl has crossed a line between turn pt and Arachne reef and .5 cpa
