1) cooperative VTS system
A cooperative vessel traffic system has been established between the US and Canada. It serves the area on these chartlets. It is operated by the USCG and Canadian CG. Haro strait and boundary pass are operated by CVTS and from Patos Is. South and East as well as the San Juan Islands by USCG
2) Victoria VTS check in points
Victoria VTS check in points on vhf ch 11-#5 Hein Bank for vessels in both directions. #6 danger shoal for N bound vessels. #6 Gowland Pt. For S or W bound vessels
3) Seattle traffic check in
Call Seattle traffic in VHF 5A when in all areas of US control. Check in at Patos Is. And Hein Bank when transiting in both directions to/from Victoria VTS. when S bound in Rosario strait check in at tide Pt. When instructed by PSVTS
4) VTS reports include
-Initial report,
-position report as directed by VTS, -sailing plan or deviation of route or ETA changes by more than 30min
-final report(check out).
-Make initial pre-call prior to entering VTS or ship movement within VTS area 15min prior but not more than 45min
Turn pt. Special operating area
1- waters from gowland Pt. West around turn Pt to .3nm S of Tom Is
2- regs will apply to all VTS participants 100m or greater
3- will apply to vessels s bound from boundary pass and vessels n bound from haro strait for boundary pass and Swanson channel
4- all vessels 100m or more in length will make best effort not to enter SOA when another vessel of 100m or more in length is in SOA unless maintain .5nm CPA. If overtaking maint .5nm CPA and have permission from VTS. If outbound from boundary pass and entering and meeting an inbound vessel in SOA not enter until inbound vessel vector is past outbound vessel. If inbound and meeting an outbound vessel in SOA wait until outbound vessel has crossed line between turn Pt and Arachne reef Lt.
5- towing vessel shall tow with as short as hawser as safe and practical while in SOA
6- if vessels intend to meet,pass or overtake in SOA they must make arrangements prior to entering SOA
Eastern San Juan archipelago VTS special area
A- consists of waters from precautionary area “RB” to precautionary area “C” as well as guemes channel between Shannon Pt and SE Pt on guemes Is.
B- towing vessel engaged in towing shall not impeded the passage of 40,000 dwt or more vessel
C- vessel 40,000dwt or mkre shall not enter or get underway in the area without prior approval from VTS. Request 15min in advance
D- vessel 100m or more in length And vessel 40,000 dwt or more may not operate within 1nm of each other except when passing astern maintain .5nm cpa
E- deviation has been granted for WSF to meet 40,000 dwt vessel in area so long as the intention is mean to cross Astern or maintain 1nm cpa
