Clear and easy to understand 66% voter turnout 2017 compared to 56% Scotland 2016
First past the post weaknesses
In cases the government does not have clear majority support, 2015 63% voted other parties
People feel their votes don’t matter
Additional member system strengths
Fairly proportional result, tories got 23.5% of support and 24% of seats in 2021
Fairer to small parties greens 6.6% of 2016 vote and 4.6% seats
AMS weaknesses
Difficult to understand 2016 56% voter turnout compared to 2017 66% UK turnout
Single transferable vote strengths
Fairer as there’s more chance of picking a winner
Voters feel less votes wasted
STV weaknesses
Confusing system- 142,000 spoilt votes in 2012
