Voter Behavior Flashcards
Past the Post voting
Voters indicate on a ballot the candidate of their choice, and the candidate who receives the most votes wins. First-past-the-post voting is a plurality voting method
Proportional voting
Proportional representation (PR) characterizes electoral systems in which divisions in an electorate are reflected proportionately in the elected body.
Runoff voting
If you have an election with more than two candidates running and no one receives a majority vote, the lowest voted recipient is eliminated, and the process is begun again.
Instant Runoff voting
Instead of indicating support for only one candidate, voters can rank the candidates in order of preference.
Block voting
One vote per seat.
Approval voting
Vote for as many as you like.
Borda count
Rank the candidates and your rank corresponds to points.
