Vor/ILS AND TACAN Flashcards
What is the purpose of the ILS?
Three component system (localizer, glide scope, and marker beacon) used to direct the pilot to the runway by providing vertical and horizontal guidance.
VOR/ILS::
The receiver is compromised of which 3 sections?
Marker beacon, VOR/localizer, glide slope
Where is the VOR/Loc antenna mounted?
Tail of the aircraft
Where is the glide scope antenna mounted?
Nose of the aircraft
Where is the marker beacon antenna mounted?
Underside of the aircraft
VOR/ILS::
What does the bearing distance indicator (BDI) display?
VOR bearing, aircraft heading, and DME
VOR/ILS::
What does the HSI display?
VOR bearing, to/from, GS deviation, and valid signal flags.
VOR/ILS::
What doeWhat does the ADI DISPLAY?
Localizer and glide slope deviation
What are the three marker beacon indicator colors?
White, Amber , blue
At what distances are the marker beacon notifications shown for “inner marker,” “middle marker,” and “outer marker?”
IM: 3000Hz, 1500 feet from runway
MM: 1300Hz, 2/3 mile
OM: 400Hz, 5 mile
What are the frequency ranges for VOR?
108.00-112.00 MHz (even tenth a only)
Or
112.00-117.95 MHz(.05 MHz steps)
What are the frequency ranges for the localizer?
108.10-111.95 MHz (odd tenth only)
What is the purpose of TACAN?
To provide accurate aircraft position in reference to a tacan station through the use of radio ranging and Rf phase relationship.
What information will the TACAN system provide?
TACAN station identification audio, relative bearing, slant range distance
What is DME used for?
The distance measuring equipment responds to interrogation pulses from an airborne TACAN that uses this information got slant range determination.
Airborne tacan provide relative bearing of up to ____ mm from selected surface beacon.
390
What is slant range?
Hypotenuse from Aircraft position to tacan beacon.
How many TACAN channels are there?
252 (126 of x, 126 of y)
Each channel is 1 MHz apart
What are the transmit frequencies for the TACAN system?
1025-1150 MHz
What are the receive channels for the tacan system?
1-63 on 962-1024MHz
64-126 on 1151-1213MHz
What are the 4 modes of the TACAN system?
Receive, transmit/receive, air to air receive, and air to air transmit/receive.
What is the purpose of the tacan receive mode?
To receive bearing information and station identification audio from selected beacon
What is the purpose of the tacan T/R mode?
To transmit an interrogation signal to a tacan beacon to determine slant range.
Then receive bearing and ID audio.
What is the purpose of the tacan A/A Rec mode?
Receive bearing info from another tacan equipped air craft. (Coast guard AC do not have bearing transmitting capabilities)
What is the purpose of the tacan A/A T/R?
To transmit an interrogation signal to another tacan equipped air craft and calculate slant range and receive bearing info.
No audio is provided.
What is the purpose of the TACAN R/T?
Transmit interrogation, receives bearing info, responds to interrogation, receives station ID audio, determines slant range and relative bearing.
What is the purpose of the TACAN mount?
Mounting base for RT AND TACAN adapter, and electrical interface
What is the purpose of the suppression bus?
To inhibit similar frequency avionics gear to protect tacan equipment and to suppress tacan equipment when other similar frequency gear is transmitting.
What is L-Band?
1000-2000 MHz
What is VOR used for?
To determine bearing from an aircraft to a ground station and to establish airways in the federal airways system
