A 5 week old male infant, who is failing to thrive, presents with a 3 day history of forceful non-bile stained vomiting.
pyloric stenosis
The mother of a 3 month old tells you that her infant vomits frequently at varying times after feeds, but particularly when he is lying flat. She tells you that, when he takes feeds of baby-rice and other cereals, he does not vomit. The vomiting only occurs after milk feeds
GOR
A month old infant at 4kg is vomiting his feeds frequently. He is gaining weight. His mother feeds him 200mls 5 times per day.
overfeeding
A 6-month old infant presents to casualty with a 24 hour history of screaming when she passes urine. Over that same period she has been vomiting and has a pyrexia of between 38.0-38.5˚C.
UTI
A newborn infant with Downs Syndrome has commenced vomiting after her first feed. The vomitus is bile-stained.
duodenal atresia
Though both Duodenal Atresia and Hirschsprung’s (now called Aganglionic Megacolon) are more likely in children with Down Syndrome, 80% of Duodenal Atresia is distal to the Ampulla of Vater so would have bile inthe vomit.
