Volume and Mass - Forces, Fluids and Density Test Flashcards
Define the following word: Weight
“Weight is how much something weighs, and is a function of the gravity pulling you down”
Define the following word: Mass
“Mass is the quantity of something, Mass is measured by using scales and giving answer in the unit (grams) “
Define the following word: Volume
” Volume is how much space an object takes up. it is measured in ml (milliliters or cm3 (cubic centimeters)”
Answer the following question -
How do you measure mass?
Mass is measured using the unit of grams. By using a scales such as a balance, weighing the objects will give you the mass, but ensure that the scale is at “zero”.
Answer the following question -
How do you measure volumes? what is the formula for a cube and a cylinder?
One way to measure volume is by using measurements. Using a rule, measure the lengths, width, and height of each object in cm. After using the formula of length x width x height, you can find the volume of a cube. To find the volume of a cylinder, you do this is 3.14 x radius x radius x height. A second way to measure volume is by using a overflow can, by filling up a overflow can with your finger in it, remove your finger and put the object in full by submerging it without putting you finger in it. Once this is done recorded the amount of water that had been spilled, that is the volume.
Answer the question -
if an object has a low density, what does it have to do with the mass and volume?
An object that has a low density means that it has a high volume but a low mass
Answer the question -
if an object has a high density, what does it have to do with the mass and volume?
An object that has a high density means that it has a low volume but a high mass
Answer the question -
How do you find density?
Density can be found by dividing mass with volume
Answer the question -
In a graph, what is the y-axis and the x-axis?
The y-axis is the mass (g) and the x-axis is the volume (ml)
Answer the question -
In a graph, what is the y-axis and the x-axis?
The y-axis is the mass (g) and the x-axis is the volume (ml)
Answer the question -
If you had a piece of graph paper that had 22 squares to represent 5 minutes of time, suggest the scale you would use?
You would use a 4 squares per 1 minute
