Voltage, potential difference and resistance Flashcards
What is voltage or potential difference?
Potential difference is a measure of the difference in electrical potential energy between two points in. a circuit. Potential difference is also called voltage
What is the unit of resistance?
The unit of resistance is the ohm (symbol Ω). Large resistances are measured in kilohm (kΩ)
and megohm (MΩ)
1kΩ = 1000Ω
1MΩ = 1000000Ω
What is another phrase for voltage?
Electrical energy
What does the voltage on a power pack or battery tell you?
The voltage on a power pack or battery tells you how many volts are in it
What does the voltage of a bulb tell you?
It refers to the force of electricity going into the bulb from a battery or electrical outlet
What happens to the current in a circuit if you increase the voltage of the power supply?
If you increase the voltage of the power supply then the current would make the lamp brighter
What is meant by resistance?
Resistance - when something resists the current of flow
What is the equation for voltage
Voltage = current x resistance V = I x R
What is the equation for resistance
Resistance = voltage/current R = I/V
