Voltage, Current & Resistance Flashcards
What is electric potential difference?
The change in potential energy per coulomb of charge
What is voltage?
The common name for electric potential difference
What is voltage measured in and what do you use to measure voltage?
Volts (V), voltmeter
What is kinetic energy?
Energy a moving object has because of its motion
What is potential energy?
The energy stored in an object
What is current electricity?
the flow of charged particles in a complete circuit
What is the unit of measure for current and what do you use to measure current?
Amperes (A), which is defined as one coulomb of charge passing a given point per second.
An ammeter is used to measure current.
What is an electric load?
Any device that transforms electrical energy into other forms of energy
What is resistance?
Slows down the flow of electrons and transforms electrical energy
What is resistance measured in and what do you use to measure resistance?
Ohms, ohmmeter
What is ohms law?
The law that states the relationship of voltage, current and resistance
What is the formula of ohms law?
V = IR Voltage = Amperes x Resistance
What do the stripes on a resistor indicate?
1st stripe = first digit
2nd stripe = second digit
3rd stripe = multiplier ( x 10^x)
4th stripe = accuracy (%)
What is the number order of the colors for resistors?
Black = 0 Brown = 1 Red = 2 Orange = 3 Yellow = 4 Green = 5 Blue = 6 Violet = 7 Grey = 8 White = 9
