Volsko’s Chap 2 Flashcards
Pressure regulating devices
Single stage regulator: reducing valve drops the pressure to its working level in one stage
How air/oxygen blenders work
Used for precise combination of air and O2
Creates a stable FiO2
Requires two equal high-pressure (50psig) air and oxygen sources
Desired FiO2 is set by a dial
How oxygen concentrators work
Separates oxygen from other gases in the air using a chemical sieve
Takes the 21% to make it higher
Delivery device for Heliox
Non-rebreather
Oxygen conserving devices
Nasal cannula
Nasal catheter
Transtracheal oxygen catheter
Low flow devices and their FiO2/Flow ranges
Nasal Cannula: [.24 - .44] 1-6 lpm (rule of four)
Simple Mask: [.35 - .50] 5-10 lpm
Oxymask: [.24 - .90] 1-flush lpm
Partial ReBreather: [.40 - .70] 6-10 lpm
Non-Rebreather: [.60 - .80] 10pm
Fixed high flow devices
Air- Entrainment nebulizers (LARGE- VOLUME NEBS)
High Flow nasal cannula (up to 60lpm)
Air -Entrainment mask (Venturi)
Know how to calculate Air:O2
Magic Box
Total Parts: add numbers in ratio
Total flow: answer for total parts x lpm
Entrained Flow: lpm x air number in the ratio
Ex: 3:1 ratio, 15lpm….. 15 x 3
