Volleyball Flashcards
What is volleyball?
A team sport played by twelve players, of which six are on the field and can be substituted every set
How is the playing field?
It has 6 imaginary zones where players locate (3 are the attack area and the other 3 are the defense area) on each side of the centre line where there is also the net. The service area is behind the baseline
How long is the match?
It has 5 sets, so therefore, there is no fixed lenght. To win a set, a team has to score 25 points with at least a 2-point advantage except when there’s a tie in the fifth set and then it would be just 15 points
How do you score points?
A team scores a point when the ball touches the ground in the opposing team’s area, the ball is hit outside the playing area after it’s touched by a member of the opposing team or when any foul in the rules is committed
Which are the rules?
The ball can be played with any part of your body and out of bounds (if it touches a line it is considered in the bounds). You can serve from anywhere behind the baseline and if it hits the net and goes through it is still valid.
Which are the fouls?
Four touches or two touches per player, a team can’t touch the ball four times and a single player can’t touch the ball twice. Holding the ball or blocking or spiking a served ball is also penalized. The players can’t enter the opponents’ play area or touch the net.
What happens when you get ball possession?
They have to rotate clockwise direction.
How do you do the forearm pass?
You have to position yourself behind the ball with your legs slightly bent and intercept the ball with the surface fo your arms with a light hit.
How do you do the hanging pass?
It’s a variant of the forearm or the finger pass but jumping, it’s used when te ball is very high or long.
How do you do the finger pass?
You have to keep your fingers slighthly bent facing the ball and making an imaginary triangle and your legs bent so that, when you get the ball, straighten your legs and arms to give impulse.
How do you do the back-set?
It’s a finger pass but the ball is hit over the player’s head and the shoulders move back to pass the ball to the player behind.
How do you do the spike?
Approach a high ball with a couple of steps and then jump with both feet to spike it with your hand coming forward from the ear and shifting the weight to give it strength and speed.
How do you do the block?
Extend the arms upwards and jumping high to intercept the spike.
How do you do the fake?
Trick the opponents by faking a spike or hit
How do you do the dig?
It’s used to save the ball when it’s far from the player, to gain centimetres needed to reach the ball.
