Volcanos and Earthquakes, vocab Flashcards
Extinct Volcano
It will never erupt again.
Active Volcano
It will erupt again soon
Crater
the top of a volcano where the main vent’s magma comes out
Molten
melted rock
Dormant Volcano
a volcano that won’t erupt in a long time, but will still erupt again
Lava

Shield Volcano
A large humble mound with multiple vents where runny lava oozes out. It is the least destructive.
Magma
Molten rock, or lava, when it is inside Earth is called magma.
Volcano
Volcanos are all very different in looks and number of vents, but they all erupt burning hot lava from deep inside Earth.
Ash
Ash is pieces of hot molten rock and gasses that can be extremely dangerous and come out of volcanoes often.
Eruption
An eruption occurs when magma escapes through vents in Earth’s crust and comes out of volcanoes after being in its magma chamber for some time
Cinder
