Volcanoes Flashcards
Where Is a volcano formed
A volcano is usually formed at destructive plate boundaries and hotspots
What happens before an eruption
Gases build up in the magma chamber
Life cycle
Active,dormant,extinct
Active
Has erupted in past 100 years
Dormant
Has not erupted in 100 years but could erupt again
Extinct
Has not erupted in historical times
What scale do they use to measure a volcano
(VEI) volcanic explosivity index
What is an example
Mount st. Helens 1980 Washington state USA
