Q

Composite volcanoes are…

A

Very high/have a narrow base
Contains sticky magma with silica in it
Are very explosive as more pressure builds up under the sticky magma
Lava doesn’t flow far when the volcano erupts
When the lava hardens it forms the steep sided shape of a composite volcano.
Found at destructive plate boundaries

Q

Shield volcanoes are

A

Have gently sloping sides/wide base
Contain more runny lava with less silica in it
Erupt more gently
When it erupts the lava flows out quickly.
The lava spreads out an hardens to make the gentle slope of a shield volcano.
Found at constructive plate boundaries
